Crew:
- Commander (Radio Operator)
- Driver
- Gunner (Loader)
Advantages:
- Phenomenal protection at the front from all angles, most at tier enemies are no match for your sloped armor
- For a tier 4 light, the alpha damage on the top gun is pretty high
- Getting pushed by an ally can allow you to go much faster due to the transmission allowing a +50 KM/H top speed
- This is the last of the slow, poorly armed french light tanks
Disadvantages:
- Very sluggish traverse and speed, moves like a heavy tank; without an allie''s help, you''ll barely see above 20 KM/H
- Like most french tanks, the HP Pool is low for its tier
- Bad radio means you cant be too far from your allies, or you''ll lose track of enemies
- All guns, even the top one, have very poor penetraton; accuracy, aimtime, and RoF (3rd gun) are awful too
- Between its poor speed, severely handicapped firepower and heavy team reliance, this tank performs terribly beyond tier IV
Tank description:
The AMX 40 is a French tier 4 light tank.Development started in March 1940. Almost all armor plates had a complex and curvilinear shape, and the hull featured few, if any, right angles. The AMX 40 was supposed to replace the Somua S35 and S40 in 1941–1942, but the project was discontinued in July 1940. Existed only in blueprints. One of the most futuristic tanks of its time, with unique thick and rounded armour. There is almost no straight angled part on the hull and turret which gives it good shot deflection abilities. In game, it plays more like a heavy medium or heavy tank. It is a cumbersome vehicle that barely scratches the 20km/h mark on flat ground, and has a slow firing gun to "compliment" its sluggishness. Players often call it the "Duck" in game due to its shape. Because of the poor gun, poor mobility and obsolescence against higher-tier tanks, it is often considered alongside the M3 Lee as one of the worst vehicles in the game. While the armor sloping is impressive, the 60 to 70mm of base armor means that protection peaks at 130mm without angling, and a lot of guns on your tier can penetrate you if you aren''t positioned right (especially from TDs). Nonetheless, while it''s far from an insight to future French light tanks, it''s a pretty good platform to practice the traditional methods of driving heavy armored tanks. The AMX 40 leads to the AMX ELC bis.
